Soche Church Choir wins choral competition

Soche Church Choir 1 of Africa Evangelical Church (AEC) won the K100 000 Blantyre Area Council Youth Choir Competition at the Evangelical Bible College of Malawi (EBCoM).

The choir went home with a trophy and K50 000 cash and their winning song was Tamanda wekha zomwe  Mulungu wakuchitira. Their runners up Naotcha AEC, carted home K30 000 with their songs Ambuye mmwamba akudabwa, Lilemekeze dzina lake and third placed Chilomoni won K20 000 for their song Mundipange ndikhale woyera.

The competition’s organising committee chairperson, Annie Antonio, said the aim of the competition was to look at song composition, stage performance, standing, uniform and the communication between the leader and the group.

“As organising committee, we are really impressed with the performances. It shows all spent some time to prepare. We are looking forward to the national competition,” said Antonio.

Chairperson for AEC Blantyre Area Council that comprises Blantyre, Phalombe-Chiringa and Zomba, Bonny Sauti, said the organisation of the choral competition was also aimed at reaching out to the church youth in Blantyre Area Council. n
