Solomonic Peacocks in Zambia festival

Solomonic Peackocks will stage The Hot Undercurrent at the April International Theatre Festival in Lusaka, Zambia, later this month.

According to the Blantyre-based theatre group’s president McArthur Matukuta, the theatre carnival jolts into action on April 26 at Lusaka Playhouse. It will bring together plays, comedies and poetry from as far as Pakistan.

While in the Zambia capital, the ‘wise peacocks’ will use the same stage as Zimbabwe’s Edzai Isu, Pakistan’s  and an array of locals: Green Buffaloes Theatre and Culture Club, Napsa Theatre Club, Kabwe Arts Society and Khomo Lathu Media.

“The artists are expected to showcase their talent in the various performances bordering on themes of governance, health, development and culture. The buoyant artistic interpretation of the themes will bring to the fore through thought-provoking and entertaining productions a fresh breeze to the audience and contribute to positive change as well as the missing dramatic entertainment,” wrote Matukuta on the festival’s  Facebook group.

The festival is unique because it includes comedy and poetry which have been missing on the programmes of locally- organised festivals, he said.

There will also be outreach workshops on theatre productions tackling specific themes and both local and visiting artists will merge for the production.
