Solomonic Peacocks’ Zambia trip Tuesday
The festival, bringing together poets and dramatists from as far as Zimbabwe and Pakistan, starts on Thursday at Lusaka Playhouse.
But the “wise peacocks” of Blantyre will have to wait until 5pm on Saturday to showcase their 2009 play, The Hot Undercurrent, at the theatre carnival.
“All is set for the trip and the actors are ready to do Malawians proud at the diversity of arts,” said Solomonic Peacocks president McArthur Matukuta on Sunday.
While in Lusaka, the country’s flag carriers will undergo training in theatre production.
This is their fourth international trip since their appearance at Johannesburg’s Market Lab, South Africa, in 2001. In 2006, they toured Scotland as part of the partnership between the European country and Lilongwe.
Two years ago, they performed at Buddies festival in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Their theatre export to Zambia mirrors the rough side of parent’s intrusion into children’s marriages and decision-making.
