The coronavirus pandemic has forced many entertainment events to be cancelled for months, but fun seekers this weekend have a chance to experience something for a change.

Despite the Covid-19 preventive protocols still in effect, a number of artists have lined up entertainment events this weekend most notably Black Missionaries Band and Mable Banda Khonje’s lingerie fashion line launch in Lilongwe.

Banda-Khonje: The idea is to give people an opportunity

Ma Blacks is set to make a return this weekend with three performances lined up. Tonight the group will perform at Zitherapano in the lakeshore district of Mangochi. On Saturday they will be at Club 9 in Zomba before wrapping up their engagements with a performance at Ozone in Machinjiri, Blantyre on Sunday.

Manager for the band Ras Ray Harawa confirmed the shows in an interview and indicated that all Covid-19 preventive protocols will be observed during the performances.

Harawa said: “It has been a strange and unpleasant experience. We missed our work so much. We have been practicing all the time though and our fans should expect powerful performances during the weekend.”

During the three performances, the band will rely on support from their cousins Anthony Makondetsa, Yanjanani Chumbu, Moda Fumulani and Khozie Masimbe.

On Saturday in Lilongwe, attention will turn to Latitude 13 where former model and designer Mabel Banda-Khonje is expected to unveil her lingerie line Bodiour by Doll Mabel. The Malawian event follows the launch of the fashion accessory in The Netherlands a month ago where she is currently based.

The event in Lilongwe has attracted the participation of seven local models and will also be spiced up by music performances by actress-cum-musician Lily Banda, DJ Nathan Tunes and Lucent the Violinist.

Khonje said: “The idea is to give people an opportunity to view our lingerie that will be on display. We want to give the attendees a real hands-on play-time to understand what the clothing line is about.”

She said they will also install a pop stall, which will accord patrons the opportunity to buy the lingerie and enter a raffle draw.

The Latitude 13 event will be followed by an after-party at Epic Lounge in Area 10, which will be open to everyone.
