A journey from Mzimba to South Africa ended abruptly on Wednesday when an unidentified bus allegedly drove about 80 passengers in the opposite direction to Mzuzu and left them destitute at Luwinga Industrial Area in the city.

A bus official, only identified as Mr Chalimba, refused to grant The Nation an interview.South Africa

But travel agents managing some of the passengers alleged that Chalimba failed to pay the owner of the bus K1.6 million ($2 817).

The agents, however, failed to explain why passengers had to be taken to Mzuzu when the green city is not a route to the rainbow nation.

They were also unable to identify the registration of the bus, nor the individual or company owning it.

“These are thieves. They have stolen our money and are refusing to pay us back. They owe me K230 000 ($405) for my 15 customers,” said Zondi Hara of Kamteteka Transporters.

Northern Region police spokesperson Maurice Chapola said police were not aware.
