South Pool League close in on sponsorship

Listen to this article

The Southern Region Pool League (SRPL)—which is viewed as the stronghold of domestic pool—is closing in on its elite league’s sponsorship.

The sponsorship paves the way for the start of the league on January 10 2015, according to chairperson Davie Lonjezo Mallunga.

Some 15 teams, which are to be drawn from Blantyre, Mulanje and Chikwawa are expected to register for the country’s biggest league whose enrollment fee is pegged at K23 000.

However, while a championship trophy is surely at stake, Mallunga insisted that the actual prize money will be determined by the sponsorship package likely to be unveiled “before January 7 2014.”

In the recent past, lack of sponsorship has meant that the league was self-sponsored. The SRPL was revived early this year after months of inactivity.

Clubs likely to register are defending champions Formula One of Blantyre, Kabinda Snipers, Crossroads, Friends, Chembas, Zingwangwa, Oasis and Ozone.
