South refs undergo fitness test in Zomba

Sixty referees and their assistants from the Southern Region on Sunday underwent a fitness test which was held for the first time at Chirunga ground in Zomba. The exercise failed to take place at the College of Medicine (CoM) in Blantyre the previous day due to a downpour.

It was presided over by FAM referees development officer Maxwell Mtonga, instructors Charles Kafatiya and Mofatt Champiti. One assistant female referee, Olive Chimera, failed to make the grade.

Fifa referees Dennis Ngulube and Anthony Raphael excelled in their category followed by female Fifa referees Grace Msiska and Linda Kachikuni. Kelvin Ngolanga led the crew in the Fifa assistant referees male category whereas Bernadetter Kwimbira made her way through in the Fifa assistant referees’ female category.

Other notable referees who excelled were Sifoliano Tebulo, Francisco Scova and Benedict Chongwa. Southern Region Referees Committee (SRRC) chairperson Alfred Chasowa said some referees from Chikhwawa and Mwanza failed to show up due to transport problems.
