The Southern Region Basketball League (Sozobal) has named a 16-member squad that will travel to Lilongwe for the All Star Games sponsored by G.Y. Exports and Imports.

The games start on Saturday at the African Bible College (ABC) court.

According to Sozobal chairperson Hamlet Kamtengeni, selection was based on performance.

“The response during training has been positive. But the drawback is that most of our senior players have commitments this week and this will really affect our performance. We know Central Region Basketball League [Cezobal] are defending the trophy, but they should expect a strong challenge,” said Kamtengeni in a telephone interview from Blantyre.

The Sozobal squad comprises Moses Mzumara from Poly Bobcats, Mike Chimombo from Crazy Warriors and Henry Mbale from Magang’a. The list of shooting guards are Bentley Chimaliro from Poly Bobcats, Emmanuel Lembi of Magang’a, Maxwell Selemani (Chanco Hawks) Blessings Kaho and Diverson Munthali (Cobbe Barracks).

Forwards are Mike Kalanga from Crazy Warriors, Joseph Nankwenya (Magang’a) , Manelo Munthali (Magang’a), Waza Phiri (Chanco Hawks) and Francis Mpakeni from Bobcats

The squad is coached by Hope Chisamanga, assistant coach is Hendrix Amos while team manager is Banthali Banda.

Cezobal chairperson Khama Mphepo also announced the squad is set to defend the K3 million title.

The squad includes Austin Banda, Chikondi Kamoto, Limbani Yatina, Ian Bunda, Kondwani Mhone, Richard Chavula, Takondwa Mengezi, Todd Stiles, Asante Chauma, Brian Kumwenda, Henry Banda, Majama Jere, Malumbo Kumwenda, Madalisto Montana, Emmanuel Phiri, Kondwani Nyanda, Chongo Masanjika, Pempho Kanjadza, Rumbani Nyirenda, Rocky Kaunda and Zofuna Chipungu.

Mwasoni Phiri is coach deputised by Adam Gaskin. Edgar Ngongola is team manager.
