The Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal) 2012/13 season throws-off on Saturday on a positive note after securing K350 000 (about $2 095) sponsorship from Kati Scales.

For over eight years, Sozobal has been running without sponsorship, but now there is salvation, Sozobal vice-general secretary Banthari Banda announced through a press statement yesterday.

“Sozobal has managed to secure sponsorship for the league from Kati Scales to the tune of K350 000 ($2 095). For the past nine years or so, the league operated without sponsors and this is a breakthrough to the Sozobal family,” Banda said.

Teams in the zone should be excited with the sponsorship as the season kicks off at Blantyre Youth Centre.

With the coming in of the sponsorship, Banda announced that this season there will be allowances for officiating personnel.

“So all those interested in officiating games should register their names with Sozobal members before it is too late. Sozobal is asking teams that have not yet submitted their registration forms and fees to do so by end of business this Friday,” he said.

Sozobal has since urged the general public to patronise the launch of the games this Saturday at the BYC.

“Potential sponsors should contact Sozobal president Hamlet Kamtengeni and general secretary Augustine Gwizima,” he added.
