Southern Region Basketball League (Sozobal) has secured a K1 million (US$2 457) sponsorship from Tradestone Commodities for the junior league.

According to Sozobal publicist Kondwani Kabowa, the participating teams will be secondary and high schools and Under-18 teams.

“There will be prize money and medals for the top-three teams and we are very thankful to the sponsor because the teams will now be motivated thereby improve the level of competition and standards of the game.

“The sponsor will also give away individual awards such as young up-and-coming player award, league MVP, highest scorer award and best defensive player,” said Kabowa.

He said currently they are still hunting for Senior and Ladies league sponsorship.

“We will launch these leagues soon and we want to run them concurrently. Although the other two do not have sponsorship, we will still run the league using money we collect from registration up until we find sponsorship,” he said.

Sozobal boasts of over 50 teams ranging from junior, college women to senior men’s teams.
