Spoken word, music come together

Poet Tendai Shaba has teamed up with several musicians on his debut spoken word album titled God is Good released yesterday. In the album, his spoken word is supported by harmonies from the various artists featured.

In an interview, Shaba said he started writing and recording the poems in 2004.

Dan Lu: It was a great experience

“Poems on the album are designed to feed your spirituality and question your relevance. We owe it to our friends and families to live fulfilling and relevant lives,” he said.

Shaba said the themes of the album are personal development and spiritual growth.

“I made the album because I am inspired by my friends, family and fans that have religiously patronised my poetry since 2020,” he said.

On his decision to incorporate music on the album, Shaba said he decided to blend in some music to enrich the poetry.

“I am a whole artist, so the experience in the studio with fellow artists who are my friends was magical,” said the poet.

One of the musicians featured on the album, Dan Lu said he is honoured to have been involved in the project.

He said: “Tendai is doing good poetry. When he approached me to feature in the poetry I accepted. It was a great experience.”

Other musicians featured in the album include Lulu, Goma Nyondo, Chisomo Chimoto and Graiton Pasanje AKA GD.

The album also features music by Chitheka Family and the late Wambali Mkandawire who had made arrangements with the poet before his demise.

God is Good has been co-produced by DG and Shaba.
