Northern Region football referees, sports administrators and journalists on Saturday cheered up patients at Nkhata Bay and Chitipa District hospitals where they donated food and health products.

The referees donated to patients in Children’s Ward at Chitipa District Hospital while administrators and journalists donated to patients at Nkhata Bay District Hospital.

This was the climax of end-of-year get together the two bodies and journalists have had in the districts for the past three years.

The items donated to Chitipa District Hospital were worth K300 000 while those donated to Nkhata Bay District Hospital pegged at K400 000.

Presenting the items at Nkhata Bay District Hospital, the group’s vice-chairperson Shadrick Kisyombe said the donation was part of celebrating the festive season with the patients who had no chance to be with their families.

“We decided to come to share with you so that you can also celebrate this festive season,” he said.

On his part, Nkhata Bay District Hospital spokesperson Christopher Singini applauded the referees, sports administrators and journalists for the donation.

He also appealed to companies and individuals to consider cheering up patients, some of whom lack basic needs.

“We appreciate this donation. This is a good gesture the public needs to emulate,”he said.

On the other hand, Northern Region Referees Committee general secretary Clemency Kanduku promised to continue with the charity work by visiting other hospitals in the coming years.

Chitipa District Hospital Children’s Ward in charge Esnat Juwa hailed the referees for the donation.
