The show has brought together some of Malawi’s best actors who will perform in two plays- Mwataya Chipangano and Behind Bars written by Alfred Azizi and Maxwell Chimphangwi, respectively.
Well-known actors include Frank Yalu, Alfred Azizi and Penemulungu Banda, among others.
The association’s chairperson Lyson Namalomba said the show also aims at assuring Malawians the theatre is still alive and thriving in the country.
“We will use the money to empower our members in the districts by holding various workshops and offering support when they want to hold shows of their own.
“We have taken two actors from the best drama groups in the country because as an association, we are taking a leading role and we want people to know that we put all our might into it,†said Namalomba.
He added that from Blantyre, the show will be taken to Thyolo, Chikhwawa and Mwanza from where the association is expected to team up with the Central Region Chapter for similar events.
“At the moment, the Central Region chapter is working on something and we will team up with them on the play. If all goes well, we are hoping the same can happen with them Northern Region chapter. People have for so long claimed that theatre is dying in Malawi and we are saying no,†said Namalomba.
