Barely two weeks after the FMB (Malawi) Cricket tournament, Southern Region Cricket League (SRCL) will conduct a pre-season tournament on Sunday ahead of the 2012 National Bank of Malawi (NBM) 40-Overs Super League.

According to SRCL chairperson Shiraz Zaveri, the event will be conducted at the Indian Sports Club (ISC), Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) and Oriental Cricket Club (OCC) in Malawi’s commercial hub of Blantyre.

“This will be a 12-Overs competition which will prepare the teams for the National Bank competition next month. All cricket clubs in the region are free to join,” said Zaveri.

MSC Orange are the current NBM champions. They beat MSC Silver by 80 runs during the finals last season.

Meanwhile, MSC Silver’s captain Saeed Limdawala, whose side recently won the First Merchant Bank (FMB) tournament after a long spell of MSC Orange’s dominance, has said his team will win the event and any other contest that will come their way.

But MSC Orange’s captain Khalil Badat is optimistic that his team will not slip again and vowed to defend the NBM title.
