Champions of the OG Issa Southern Region Netball League (SRNL), to be crowned on Saturday, will keep the floating trophy they get for good.

SRNL general secretary Anne Hanjahanja disclosed this in an interview on Wednesday as she gave a programme for the closing day of the season.

Bingu Tigresses, who were playing MTL Queens yesterday, and Escom Sisters are in contention for the crown.

They face each other in the last game of the season at the Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC).

“This is the third season of the OG Issa and as per our agreement, the team that wins it this time around will have it for good. We look forward to a great finale,” said Hanjahanja.

The season was supposed to wind up on February 2, but was delayed following an appeal by Tigresses, who were contesting their suspension from the league for refusing to play in the Rainbow Paints finals last December.

“It has been a long journey characterised by lots of controversies. But we thank God that we have managed to pull through ,” said Hanjahanja.

She also said the prize presentation ceremony will be held at BYC, after the final game.

“Sponsors have promised to give out surprise prizes on top of the usual awards of best players and top three teams. So, it is going to be exciting. We urge all netball fans to come and witness the event,” she said.

Escom Sisters are the defending champions.
