SRPC spreads pool to Chiradzulu, Chikhwawa

Pool could, arguably for the first time, be introduced in Chiradzulu and Chikhwawa districts as part of the revived Southern Region Pool League’s (SRPL) interim committee’s development agenda.

SRPL interim chairperson Enock Njiwa announced the ambitious self-sponsored programme to grow the sport in all districts in the South on Wednesday.

“We intend to increase coverage (with time of course) to try and reach out to areas which the previous committees did not cover. We will strive just to make the representation better in the sense that if we talk of it being a regional thing, then it has got to be represented accordingly,” Njiwa explained.

“We may extend to areas such as Thyolo, Mulanje, Chikhwawa, Mwanza and Chiradzulu. If one wants to differ, then I can remind you that we once had teams from some of these districts and it is just a matter of reviving their respective interests. Otherwise, we will be completely new in Chikhwawa and possibly Chiradzulu.”

The announcement came barely five days after Njiwa and his team were ushered into office to replace the previous Sam Phiri-led executive committee which Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) dissolved.

SRPL will hold its elections on August 2 2014 at Afro Motel, Blantyre.

“We will aim at promoting the game in all dimensions starting from performance levels, discipline and commitment, all without putting the game or Mapa into disrepute,” Njiwa added.

For a start, the committee has invited teams to pay K8 000 participation fee for an inaugural self-funded tournament to take place on July 6 at Afro Motel in Blantyre.
