Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) has commissioned 10 water kiosks constructed in Namadidi Township in Zomba.

Speaking yesterday during the commissioning of the kiosks, SWRB board chairperson Ibrahim Matola said they wanted to increase access to safe and clean water in the district.

“Water is life. Clean and safe water minimises the chances of getting sick from waterborne diseases,” he said.

Matola said the board is planning to construct many water kiosks to increase the number of households accessing potable water.

On his part, Zomba District Council chairperson Michael Kwilipa said most rural communities in the district were facing water challenges.

“Development comes in many forms and access to clean and safe water is one of them,” he said.

In his remarks, Zomba Changalume legislator Bizwick Million (UTM Party) commended Vitens Evides International, a Danish organisation, for supporting SRWB to implement the project.

Vitens Evides International representative Dana Van der Velden said in an interview that she was pleased the project, which started in 2017, was completed.

“I hope that we will build a sustainable partnership with SRWB so that we reach out to as many communities as possible,” she said.
