St Andrew’s International High School has offered the venue for Saturday’s Southern Region Chess League (SRCL) final qualifiers in the Presidential Schools Chess Championships.
According to SRCL schools chess coordinator Margaret Ngugama, the school decided to offer the venue as a reward for the good conduct of players during the preliminary matches.

The matches saw 30 male and 20 female pupils from various schools making it into the qualifiers.
“They were impressed with how the pupils behaved during the initial qualifiers and they have offered the place as a token of appreciation. They said if all goes well, the school will also host the national finals for free. We are grateful for their generosity,” she said.
The SRCL final qualifiers will see six boys and a similar number of girls securing slots in the senior category of the national finals scheduled for June 13.
SRCL counterparts in the Centre and North are expected to usher 10 players (five boys and five girls) each into the national showdown.
Over 150 pupils from St Andrew’s, Army Secondary School, Jacaranda, Chisapi Girls, Michiru View, Rose Garden and Kalibu Academy took part in the initial qualifiers.
In the juniors section, national champion Khwima Gondwe of Chichiri Primary School, Rafik Namangale of Namiwawa Private Primary and Tafadzwa Linje of Snow White Primary School earned national finals after they emerged as SRCL champion, runner-up and third-placed, respectively.
