Stadal Building Contractor (SBC) has increased sponsorship for the Southern Region beach soccer from K1 million (about $2 500) to K2.5 million (about $6 250).

SBC managing director Stafford Mpoola announced the increment during a prompt press briefing at the company’s head office in Area 12, Lilongwe on Wednesday.

The league is set to start on April 27 and the launch will take place in Mangochi where there will be a mini-tournament.

“The increment is part of my commitment to see the growth of beach soccer in the country. When we talk about social responsibility we really have to mean that,” said Mpoola.

He also unveiled four sets of uniforms for the four teams that will participate in the mini-tournament. The teams are Zitherepano, Yagowa, Army Navy Unit and Mangochi Escom.

Mpoola also announced that the winners of the mini-tournament on the launch will get K50 000 (about $250). There will also be individual prizes for the best goalkeeper, best striker and most valuable player.

Beach Soccer Malawi (BSM) general secretary David Saddo expressed gratitude to BSM for the increment and promised to be prudent and transparent in the use of the money.

“We are proud to be associated with Stadal and we do not take this sponsorship lightly. We have Salima and Chintheche leagues which are struggling. The sponsorship will transform beach soccer at grass roots in the South,” said Saddo.
