Stakeholders asked to protect children’s rights in Mwanza

Centre for Human Rights, Education Advice and Assistance (Chreaa), Mwanza police and Mwanza Magistrate’s Court have called on non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the district to construct cells for female.

The request was made in Mwanza on Thursday during a court users committee (CUM) meeting.

Chreaa programmes manager Immaculate Maluza said her organisation is committed to protect the rights of female and children inmates hence its support t in construcing cells for female.

“There is need to protect female and children prisoners’ rights and Chreaa will take a leading role in this noble duty,” she said.

Mwanza Police Station officer-in-charge Rhoda Manjolo said it was not proper for female suspects to be kept on police corridors while children are put together with old people in cells. She called for speedy construction of female and children cells. n
