Stand up comedy in October

Listen to this article

With the number of Malawian stand-up comedians increasing, local comedy lovers can sit on the edges of their seats, ready to be treated to a douse of laughing powder, as a new show is set for Capital Hotel on October 25.

In the past Malawi stand-up comedy in English was synonymous with Daliso Chaponda. Yet, today comedians like Maclean Mbepula and Diana ‘Dee’ Satha have cracked comedy lovers at their sides and they come together this summer in the capital.

Dubbed the Miss Fit, this is a first in Malawi comedy history and will see musicians and poets sharing the stage.

“It’s basically mainly a comedy show but with a bit of music and poetry. I will be doing comedy, Alex Muzk and George Kalukusha will do what they know best which is music with poet and stand up comedian Maclean Mbepula being the emcee,” said one of the organisers Satha.

The show will be documented on a DVD which will later be sold to the public.

“The DVD will document our journey to the show. It will include some meetings with partners or sponsors, our pre-show, rehearsals and all in the run up to the event,” added.
