Standard Bank final raises K7 million

The K20 million (about $66 666) Standard Bank Knockout Trophy finals between Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers at Silver Stadium on Saturday, which the Nomads won 2-0, netted over K7 million (about $23 333).

FAM commercial manager Casper Jangale and Central Region Football Committee treasurer general Payson Likagwa said the match grossed K7 400 000.

The amount surpassed that which was raised during the semi-final Blantyre derby between Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers at the same venue the previous Saturday.

Despite FAM hiking gate charges for the semi-final encounter to K1 000 at open stands, it grossed K6 774 000 million.

Likagwa said the finalists received K1.3 million each.

Jangale thanked Central Region soccer fraternity for its great patronage.

“We have been playing semi-finals and finals in the Central Region and we observed that the patronage has been encouraging. Let us hope that people will show the same support during the international game against Ghana on Saturday.

“We should commend people that they have been coming to games despite that we increased the charges. We are grateful,” said Jangale.
