“Our sponsorship of the Be More underscores Standard Bank’s passion in taking a leading role to create meaningful engagement for customers and other stakeholders.  We aim to grow the race into a leading, authentic endurance signature event on the race calendar in Malawi to be subscribed annually by diverse interest groups,” said Unyolo.

She said the race has been designed to become a calendar event that Malawians can look forward to.

“We hope that the race will grow into something more than just a race. This will be a platform to take stock of our health and also raise awareness on society’s most pressing needs that may require the attention of and support of all stakeholders, financially,  materially and morally,” she said.

Prizes for the winners range from K1 million for top finishers, K800 000 for second place in both categories and K500 000 for third place.

“In our cities and towns, what was once considered a pastime reserved only for weekend and holidays, has become a daily routine with more people taking to open-air fields to jog and walk. We looked at this and thought that a marathon would be an opportunity to bring everybody together,” she said.

The race has been split into three key legs of five kilometers, 20 kilometres and 21 kilometer for both men and also children above the age of 12.

She said the race will stretch from Standard Bank Head Office in Lilongwe City Centre to Kumbali Village. n
