Standard Bank and NAM are involved in a blame game regarding the future of the bank’s netball cup sponsorship.

While Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) claims it is waiting to hear from the bank on the way forward having addressed all the issues that led to the suspension of the tournament, Standard Bank says it is waiting for NAM to approach it on the same.

NAM president Rosy Chinunda said: “We wrote Standard Bank sometime back informing them that all the issues they raised that led to the sponsorship suspension had been addressed, but there has been no response.”

The NAM president said the sponsor’s major concern was lack of proper set-up, in particular a secretariat which has since been put in place.

However, Standard Bank marketing head Chimwemwe Matonga said they were not in receipt of NAM’s letter.

“As far as we are concerned, we are waiting for them to call for a meeting and brief us on the progress made regarding the issues that we raised.

“Nevertheless, as a bank, we are open to consider the sponsorship if the issues that we raised have been addressed,” said Matonga.
