Stars tourney to open Bingu Stadium volleyball courts

To mark the official opening of Bingu National Stadium volleyball courts in Lilongwe, Central Region Volleyball League (CRVL) will tomorrow host an All Stars National Volleyball tournament.

Organising committee spokesperson Peter Pemba said the competition will mark the launch of the three volleyball courts at the stadium.

“We are very grateful that the dream of having volleyball courts has been fulfilled. All is set for the launch,” he said.

CRVL, in conjunction with well-wishers, constructed the courts that cost K230 000.

The two-day event has attracted select teams from all the three regions and they will play in mixed All Stars category.

In Ladies category, Northern Region Volleyball League (NRVL) will be represented by Katoto Smashers while Southern Region Volleyball League (SRVL) will be represented by Gemz while CRVL has Snipers, Blue Eagles, Kamuzu Barracks and Natural Resources College (NRC).

The men’s category B has eight teams, Ntchisi Smashers, Mipuniro Youth, Blue Eagles Youth, Mponela Police, Mchinji Trickers, Red Busters, KB Youth and Don Bosco.

The champions in mixed All Stars category will receive a trophy and K100 000 while runners-up will get 12 silver medals.

The ladies’ champion will receive a trophy and K300 000 while runners-up and third-placed teams will receive K200 000 and K100 000, respectively.

In men’s B category, the winners will get a trophy and K100 000 while second and third best teams will receive K50 000 and K25 000, respectively.

CRVL general secretary Tarsizio Chikaonda said the courts will help in developing the sport in the region.
