Strike paralyses synod college of health science

The Ekwendeni College of Health Science under the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia has been closed for about a month following a strike by academic staff demanding better working conditions.

College principal Esau Kasunda confirmed in an interview yesterday that the institution has been closed for about a month as there is a sit-in.

He said the staff have raised a number of issues they want the synod to address.

But Kasunda said there is hope that the school might open earlier as the grievances are being addressed.

CCAP Synod of Livingstonia general secretary the Reverend Levi Nyondo said the synod executive is scheduled to meet today to discuss the issue.

He said he would be able to respond after the meeting.

The development has come after another strike at University of Livingstonia, also owned by the synod, where lecturers also went on strike to force the synod to improve their working conditions. The staff also demanded removal of some officials at the university. n
