Struggling weekend for Malawi Professionals

Listen to this article

It was a weekend of struggles for Malawian football players based in South Africa with Robert Ng’ambi emerging on the losing end, Robin Ngalande disappearing from action and Atusaye Nyondo failing to locate the target.

Ng’ambi’s Platinum Stars lost 1-0 to University of Pretoria (Tuks) who featured Nyondo for 65 minutes before he was replaced while already leading through an earlier Thabo Mnyamane goal at Tuks Stadium.

Tuks are 11th on the table. For Stars, lying sixth on 27 points, the loss was their first in 2014.

A week after making his long-awaited return from injury, there was no sight of Ngalande as BidVest Wits United edged Amazulu 1-0 through Sthembiso Ngcobo’s sole effort in Durban on Saturday.

In Mozambique, Zicco Mkanda and his Liga Maculmana drew 0-0 away in Madagascar against hosts Snaps Sport to progress to the next stage of the CAF Champions League on 1-0 aggregate over two legs. Maculmana won the first leg 1-0 last week.
