Student fears losing opportunity

Listen to this article

Mwimba College of Agriculture student Andrew Phiri is appealing to well-wishers to help him pay K270 000 for tuition.

Phiri, 19, walked from Lumbadzi, a distance of about 20 kilometres, to Nation Publications Limited (NPL) offices in HB House along Paul Kagame Highway to narrate his situation.

Phiri: I am helpless
In an interview, the visibly exhausted young man, who was in the company of his mother, said he wants to be educated to support his family and serve the nation in agriculture.

“My father passed away years ago and my mother has struggled to pay school fees when I was in secondary school. With the help of other well-wishers, I managed to complete, but now I am helpless,” he said.

Phiri said the amount will only cover tuition and accommodation for one semester. However he will also require money for necessities, including stationery. 

  1. Hey Asmie thanks for writing this story so that well wishers can read it and help if possible, but the story somehow seems incomplete to me…………i.e. how can the potential well wishers help or contact Andy to help him….
