The violence ensued during the launch game between Be Forward Mighty Wanderers FC and Silver Strikers.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda stressed that his body does not condone violence.

“Violence and hooliganism have no place in football and the ugly scenes that were witnessed in Blantyre do not reflect the aspirations and spirit of soccer and peace-loving Malawians, in which the game ought to be played and celebrated,” writes Banda in a press statement released yesterday.

He says at Sulom the vision is to commercialise the game and inculcate professional standards of football in Malawi through partnership with corporate citizens such as Be Forward.

“We, therefore, would like to sincerely apologise to the president and the entire management of Be forward [Japan] through the Malawi Ambassador to Japan, our sponsors TNM Limited, Reserve Bank of Malawi [RBM] and all football-loving Malawians for the incident that occurred on Sunday, March 22 2015,” says Banda.

He says Sulom believes in turning it into a family arena where safety and security of spectators is guaranteed. n
