As the 2019 TNM Super League second round kicks off tomorrow, Super League of Malawi (Sulom) says it expects patronage to improve.

Empty terraces were common in the first round, a development Sulom attributed to elections and post-elections issues.

But Sulom president Tiya Somba-Banda said as the battle for the championship intensifies, they expect more fans to watch TNM Super League games across the country.

“We saw some good football in the first round. The league is wide open as the championship race is up for grabs for six teams. We expect a very intense competition.

“With the competition both for the championship and relegation getting hot, there is no football fan who wouldn’t want to be part of the exciting moments and we expect crowds in the terraces,” he said.

Somba-Banda also reminded football fans to participate in Zampira Pokopoko Promotions in which two fans stand a chance to watch a Real Madrid match.

“The once in a life time dream to [travel] to the Bernabeu Stadium to watch Real Madrid in action is on this October.

“We are urging the fans to up their participation in the ZampiraPokopoko predict and win promotion in order to increase their chances of winning the trip,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sulom general a secretary Williams Banda said they expect an incident-free second round just like the first.

“The message is that all stakeholders—from players, officials, supporters to referees—should adhere to the rules and regulations. Let us desist from any form of violence or hooliganism as we have done in the first round. Football is the greatest game,” he said.

The battle for the championship resumes tomorrow with leaders Be Forward Wanderers facing second-placed Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Third-placed Nyasa Big Bullets, who did not rest due to CAF Champions League assignments, host Masters Security, who also had no break due to Confederations Cup fixtures.
