Sulom rookies yet to win

Super League of Malawi rookies Mponela United, Mzuzu United and Evirom are yet to win as the 2013/14 season enters third week this weekend.

Mzuzu United, who were in Blantyre last week drew 2-2 against Blantyre United on Sunday, after losing 1-0 to Azam Tigers on Saturday.

Evirom’s outing in the Central Region saw them lose 1-0 against Blue Eagles and drawing 1-1 against Mafco.

But it was worse for Mponela United who lost their two away games against Azam Tigers (1-0) and Red Lions (1-0) and on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Evirom are 10th on the log table with two points from three games, Mzuzu United 11th with a point from two games while Mponela are at the bottom with no point.

But Mponela are optimistic about turning around their fortunes, despite being at the tail-end of the table.

“I think our status is as a result of three factors. First, I should say psychologically my players are yet to adjust to the rigours of the Super League. The other factor is officiation. We scored four goals against Red Lions, but all were denied. It was pure daylight robbery. We could now be talking about three points,” said Mponela United coach Dennis Kumwenda.
