With barely two weeks before the 2014/15 Super League season rolls into life, the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has set April 15 as the deadline for clubs to submit player registration forms, complete with contracts.

The Super League is set to start on May 19 and at a recent stakeholders meeting hosted by FAM, it was agreed that as a first step towards implementing the player licensing project, all teams will be required to submit players’ contracts.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said: “To ensure smooth operations we are appealing to all the teams to submit registration cards by April 15.”

He also said despite all the fuss about the prospects of a busy transfer window, only one player transfer has been processed by Azam Tigers involving Peter Katsonga.

“As for the others, it is just mere speculation which we have heard through the media, but we urge all teams to follow the transfer procedures and speed up the process,” said Banda.

Some of the players linked with possible transfers are Epac’s Pilirani Zonda and Mussa Manyenje [to Big Bullets], Victor Limbani and Tizgowere Kumwenda [from Blantyre United to Bullets], Ignatius Makoloni [from Evirom to Silver Strikers], Bongani Zulu [from Evirom to Mighty Wanderers] and Bernard Harawa [from Wanderers to Tigers].

However, Bullets GS Harold Fote said his team will meet the cut-off point.

The Sulom GS also said they have a draft fixture for the first-round, but cannot release it as they are yet to get Football Association of Malawi’s [FAM] calendar of events that include the Presidential, Carlsberg and Standard Bank Knockout tournaments.

“We are planning to have a meeting with all our affiliates where issues of security and rules and regulations will be the main focus to curb violence and bring sanity in the way they conduct themselves.

“To that effect, we have also lined-up meetings with stewards and club. officials to address the same,” he said.
