The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has urged Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers to pay the K225 000 (about $562) appeal fee each to enable its Appeals Committee to convene.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said the appeal fee is crucial in the process as it will meet the costs of gathering people to hear the appeal.

“We are urging the teams to comply with the regulations. The appeal fee is K450 000 [for both] considering that only one sitting will deliberate the two appeals.

“We hope to get a positive response from the two aggrieved parties for the good of the game,” said Banda.

He said the appeal documents have since been forwarded to the relevant committee and that it is just waiting for their advice on the way forward.

Silver general secretary Mike Tembo on Sunday assured that his team will pay the fee by tomorrow (Tuesday).

“We are in the process of sourcing the money and we should be able to pay them latest by Tuesday,” said Tembo.

Nomads spokesperson, David Kanyenda, who is also their legal adviser and general secretary, could not be reached for comment.

But on Thursday, Kanyenda reiterated that they would not pay the fee because it had no basis and lacked foundation in the rules. He described it as arbitrary and manifestly excessive.
