Sulom yet to decide on kick-off date

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has said it is yet to decide on the date when the TNM Super League season will kick-off due to several factors.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda on Monday said the kick-off date will only be determined after all the logistical arrangements are finalised.

He also said the delay to announce the date has nothing to do with the delay to complete the Southern Region Football League (SRFL).

“We could not determine the kick-off date due to several factors.

“First and foremost, we were mourning the death of State president Bingu wa Mutharika. To add on to that, teams have not finalised the registration process, then there is also the issue of inspecting prospective venues to host the matches.

“We will also have to look at the calendar of other activities such as international engagements, Presidential and Standard Bank cups. Once all these issues are finalised, then the executive committee will consult with the clubs and sponsors to see when we should kick-off,” said Banda.

The SRFL is the only league yet to identify its champions. The league was delayed following Mutharika’s death.

But it is a two-horse race for the remaining slot of the top-flight football league in SRFL between Bvumbwe Research and Nchalo United.

The Central Region Football League (CRFL) and the Northern Region Football League (NRFL) already identified their champions a couple of weeks ago. Kamuzu Barracks are the CRFL candidates while Kabwafu earned promotion in the NRFL.
