“We are going to be inviting them to every show. They will identify talent basing on what they see fit and not on who has won or not. There will only be one winner in this competition, but there is a lot of talent which we will unearth regardless of who the winner is,” said Njawala.

Khumbo ‘Kabuzi’ Munthali, director of Nde’feyo Entertainment, described the initiative as a positive move.

“We have always been supportive of Search for Star. It is a good platform for the recruitment of new talent,” said Kabuzi.

He added that the initiative will help them appreciate talent better and also give them a good picture of how music in Malawi is developing and what can be done to improve the industry.

Daud Suleman, director at Nyimbo Music Company also welcomed the initiative, saying it is important to involve music executives and promoters in the course of the competition as this ensures that the objective of the competition, which is unearthing talent, is met.

“The judges of the competition look at whether someone can sing, but executives and promoters will look at whether that talent can really be sold,” said Suleman.

Like the other two music executives, Director of Prime Time Media, Edward “Wado” Kankhomba welcomed the move and praised Sunbird for assisting in unearthing raw talent .

“Sunbird is unearthing diamonds in the rough while we are looking for that too. it’s a good platform,” said Wado.

The second round for the competition is supposed to take place at Sunbird Capital in Lilongwe on August 30.
