This weekend presents an exciting opportunity for Blantyre old timers.

Monty’s Sports Bar along the Chileka Road in Blantyre tomorrow afternoon hosts a sundowner for old timers.

Co-owned by Lusungu Ngulube and Andrew Mbalati, Monty’s Sports Bar, situated about two kilometres from Kameza Roundabout along the Chileka Road, was launched last week to add flavour to the old-generation residents of Blantyre.

According to Mbalati, the bar specially caters for enthusiasts of long-forgotten music.

“Friends of the oldies in Blantyre and surrounding areas will no longer tussle with youth cohort when wishing to listen and dance to songs of their choice.

“This is a strictly old-songs bar. We are targeting revellers who are above 35 years and appreciate all sorts of old songs. Every day of the week we will have specific fusion of old songs,” said Mbalati, who is the club’s customer care manager.

He added that the idea of playing old songs throughout was for the silver-grey category revellers to hark back to their youthful days from the 1960s, to the early 1990s.

Added Mbalati: “By strictly being old-songs club we are not trying to undermine the present songs, but we feel there are old songs with unique touch that people will live to remember but they cannot find them anywhere to listen to and dance. So, once in a while we want to offer them that opportunity.”

In addition, the place will also be entertaining imbibers with free nsima everyday and during an official launch the popular Grand and Grill Bar has sponsored the event with a disco by DJs Convict and Landlord. n
