Zimba hailed Platinum Fitness Gym for the bonanza, describing the ultimate prize as a huge motivation to the boxers.

He said: “Today the boxing fraternity is honoured to receive such a huge tournament from Platinum Fitness Gym.

“What excites us is the vehicle prize which will go a long way to improve the economic welfare of the winning boxer at the end of the bonanza. This is a big motivation.”

The MPBCB president encouraged boxers to train hard to stand a chance of winning the Nissan Note.

The boxing bonanza’s organising secretary Levie Msakambewa said the winner will go away with the vehicle or money eqivalent to its value as well as a belt and a gold medal.

“The winner will have to choose between the car or the money. We have deliberately done this because the winner may opt for either the car or cash,” he said.

Msakambewa urged potential sponsors to come forward and support the bonanza, which he said is a landmark tournament.

“The idea of the Nissan Ipite was hatched upon realising that boxers in the country need to embrace the sport as business,” he said.

The boxing bonanza will start on March 27 in Lilongwe.

A  draw was conducted to pit boxers in the junior welterweight category (61-63.5Kgs).

The participating super eight boxers include the pair of Byson ‘Fuso Fighter’ Gwayani and Israel Kammwamba.

Gwayani challenged that he will knock out Kammwamba in the first round. Whereas, Kammwamba said he had been paired with a ‘baby’ whom he has beaten before.

The boxing bonanza launch attracted prospective sponsors such as Itel of the popular Tecno and Itel phone brands who dished out assorted prizes.
