Super League gate charges to vary

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has said gate charges for its games will vary this season, depending on the profile of particular matches.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said this on Thursday when reacting to reports that gate charges will be hiked in the wake of the devaluation of the kwacha.

While admitting that the charges will be hiked, Banda said the league’s annual general meeting (AGM), which will take place at the end of this month, will decide on the new charges.

“We are definitely going to increase gate charges, but it will depend on matches. Some games will be charged higher because they are crowd-pullers while others are not and there will be need to reduce charges to entice more fans to the games.

“The sponsors want to see fans coming to games in large numbers, so we will ensure that we put charges that will ensure that we have crowds at matches,” said Banda.

He also said the launch match between Silver Strikers and Bullets FC tomorrow has been pegged at K200 while the other games are at K100.

According to Banda, parliamentarians will play TNM employees in a social match before the launch game.

There will also be a live music show as well as parade of the trophy around Lilongwe City.

Last season, Super League entry charges were K100.
