Super League kick-off pushed to April 14
The 2019 TNM Super League kick-off date has been pushed to April 14 following consultations between league-runners Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and the sponsors TNM plc.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Sulom had agreed during a 2019 football calendar meeting held last month to roll out the top-flight league during the first weekend of April subject to confirmation.
But Sulom general secretary Williams Banda yesterday said April 14 is now the fixed date.
“That [April 6] was just a tentative date for planning purposes. But a calendar can change. The league has a sponsor whose interests also have to be accommodated,” he said.
Banda also said first-round fixtures are ready and will be released by the end of the month.
On his part, TNM public relations and sponsorship manager Limbani Nsapato said: “Sulom consulted us and the kick-off date was agreed. We are now good to go.”
In releasing its official calendar of events, FAM said it expects a smooth flow of events with no clashes of fixtures.
The association’s competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka said: “However, in case a change is applied, the newer version of calendar will be communicated to all stakeholders.”
