Meanwhile, the South and Central regions’ promotion battles rage on.

MDFL candidates are leaders Super Eagles (82 points from 31 games), Karonga United and Mzuzu University (Mzuni) FC who are on second and third positions respectively on 79 and 78 points.

On paper, the Eagles’ three-point cushion should give them an advantage, but they have tough assignments this weekend against Mzuni and Ekwendeni Hammers.

On the other hand, United also face Chindi FC and Mzimba United whereas Mzuni will also take on KFC Globe.

“So, anything can happen in these last two games,” MDFL fixtures secretary Dominic Kambewa Msowoya said on Monday.

In the Golden Boot chase, Loti Kasambara of Nkhata Bay Police leads on 24 goals.

In the Chipiku Central Region Football League Premier Division, pacesetters Mponela FC, who have 78 points, enjoy a five-point advantage over second-placed Maicc FC. The Dowa side has 73 points from 35 games whereas Support Battalion are third on 64 points from 34 matches.

Battalion edged Mponela 1-0 on Saturday with the division’s top scorer Samuel Banda on target to take his tally to 37.

Mponela made amends on Sunday when they beat Mchinji Rangers 2-0 whereas Battalion’s fine run continued with a 2-0 beating of Nkhotakota United the following day. Maicc lost 3-2 to Dwangwa United.

CRFL fixtures secretary Edmond Msokera said they expect the season to wind up on March 31.

The Super League promotion chase also remains undecided in the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League’s Premier Division despite Evirom’s 12-point lead after whacking Chanco 7-1 on Sunday. In other results, Chikhwawa United climbed to position two after thumping Thondwe United 4-1 on Sunday whereas Zomba United trounced Zomba Airwing 3-0.

Meke Mwase led Tigers Reserve to a 2-0 win over White Bullets. On Saturday, Chikhwawa drew 1-1 with Machinga ADD whereas Evirompounded Nyasa United 3-1.
