Surestream donates to disabled children’s centre

Surestream Academy on Saturday made a timely festive season donation of assorted food items to The Dawn Centre—a disabled children’s home—located 10 kilometres from Lunzu Trading Centre.

The academy, led by their technical director Peter Mponda and projects manager Patricio Kulemeka donated items such as rice, drinks, sugar, cooking oil, groundnuts and snacks.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Mponda, who was also accompanied by some of the academy’s students, said the donation was made in the spirit of the festive season.

“We thought it wise to share with the underprivileged children so that they should also enjoy the festive season.

“It was also one way of teaching children from our academy to have the spirit of giving to others,” said Mponda.

The centre’s founder, Mirriam Farao, and one of the directors, Lickson Jumbe, from Aqcuaid thanked Surestream Academy for their timely gesture.

Giving a brief background of the centre, Jumbe said it was started by Farao two years ago to assist disabled children in the area.

“The centre currently looks after 32 children who stay at the centre while 45 others operate from their respective homes,” said Jumbe.

He also said one of the centre’s main financier is John Searl who assisted with the construction of the hostels.

Farao thanked Surestream for their support.

“It is the first time that we have received such kind of support and we are really thankful.

“The children were also very happy to host Mponda whom they admire a lot and it was good for the children from the academy to come and see their friends here. We hope other institutions will emulate this gesture,” said Farao.
