Swashbuckling FC Surestream on Saturday kept up their 11-point lead at the summit of the Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League Premier Division with a 5-1 thumping of Nyasa United.

However, second-placed Max Bullets and Zomba United who are third, also kept up the momentum by collecting full points. Max were awarded three points [with a 2-0 margin] following Nchalo United’s failure to show up for their contest at Sedi Ground in Limbe while Zomba edged BNC 1-0.

Surestream now have 62 points from 25 games, 11 ahead of Max who were taking on Tigers Reserves as we went to press. Zomba, who had 49 points, were hosting Mangochi United yesterday.

After yesterday’s games, all the three teams would have tied on games played.

Nyasa took an early lead against Surestream, converting a penalty in the 10th minute, but the academy reorganised themselves and equalised through Patrick Phiri 14 minutes later. They went for recess with a 2-1 lead following Blessings Zamani Phiri’s strike. In the second-half, Surestream scored three more goals through Thuso Paipi, Peter Msowoya and Ernest Tambe.

“We started on a low note and Nyasa took us unawares with that early goal, but it was good that we fought on and carried the day,” said Surestream technical director Peter Mponda.

Christopher Chisasa scored the lone goal for Zomba against BNC while Andrew Malenga and George Pahuwa were on target for Cobbe.

Fourth-placed Cobbe also registered a 1-0 win over Mangochi United. n
