Sustain your motivation

Most people will agree that motivation is important to achieve your goal. Here are some ways you can stay motivated and focused on the progressive track.

Be mindfully positive: Plan what you want to do each day. This will enable you to ready yourself for any difficult tasks or challenges you anticipate. We all have parts of our jobs that are boring and unless you make up your mind to focus and do the so called boring bits to the best of your ability, your energy levels will quickly dip.

Give up the average zone: Whatever obstacles you face on the job, it’s your job to find solutions. If faced with a problem, make sure you understand the issue, get clarity on what a solution looks like and solve it. Staying in the problem zone can be draining. Try out what may be a reasonable solution instead of waiting for the perfect solution.

Get out of your own head: Some of the things that demotivate us are internal. For example, fear of failure and fear of asking for help. Set your expectations high and do not worry about things you cannot control. Start becoming aware of how you look at things so that you stay away from any tendency to focus on the negative.

Realise you make a difference: Don’t get so busy and steeped in your day to day activity that you fail to analyse what difference all your work is making. Sometimes being aware of and assessing the impact of your efforts at regular intervals will tell you whether you are just passing time or actually achieving something worthwhile which will spur you on to do more and better.

Take pride in your work: When you do work that gives you personal satisfaction and professional fulfillment, you will likely do it well. When that is your constant goal, you step up daily to do what it takes to do consistently good work.

Now take action: How can you increase your enthusiasm for the work you do?
