The Association for International Sports Press (Aips) has recognised the Sports Writers Association (Swam) by inviting its chairperson Peter Kanjere to the 90th Anniversary Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan from April 27 to May 1 2014.

Aips, headquartered in Switzerland, is mother body for all sports media and will meet Kanjere’s travel expenses to the Baku congress which would, among other issues, table Swam’s association membership application.

The congress will be conducted at the centrally located JW Marriott Hotel, Absheron, Baku which features an historic old town precinct and fortress located right in the centre.

The inner city’s Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower were listed as World Heritage Sites by Unesco in 2000.

This is the first time Swam would grace the congress to pool delegates from around the world. Kanjere leaves on Saturday April 26 2014.

“We have a new executive committee and board of trustees, hence the invitation could not have come at a better time. This congress will pool all those who matter in the world of sports journalism. I hope to learn from them and share the experience with our membership back home. The trip augurs well with our vision to ensure that Malawi sports reporters earn international recognition,” said Kanjere.
