Malawian internationals—goalkeeper Charles Swini and midfielder Frank Banda—are within sniffing distance from winning the Mozambican top-flight Mocambola League.

The duo’s team, Songo, tops the 16-team league with 59 points from 27 matches, eight points ahead of second-placed Costa do Sol, who however, have a game in hand.

Banda: We are on course

Songo need two wins from their remaining three games and Banda is optimistic that they will clinch the title.

“The title is for us to lose, it is all in our hands.

“A win and a draw could have been an option, but then Costa have a better goal difference,” he said.

Banda scored the winning goal against Costa do Sol last weekend in a top-of-the-table clash that could prove vital in their title chase. Songo won the game 2-1.

Another Malawian international, Richard Mbulu, plays for Costa.

Meanwhile, Swini is again in contention to retain the golden gloves award. n
