Tabitha inspires Swedish team to win championship

Swedish-based professional women football star Tabitha Chawinga last weekend enjoyed a double dose of glory.

She inspired her second-tier league side Kvarnsveden IK to win the league championship and capped it all by winning the Golden Boot award and earn promotion into the top-flight league.

Kvarnsveden IK finished with 66 points, five ahead of second-placed Djurgarden. Chawinga’s side completed the league fixtures with a 2-2 draw with Sunnana FC on Saturday.

With 43 goals in 26 games, the dreadlocked former DD Sunshine forward has ensured that within a season the team she joined from Swedish Third Division side Krokom/Dvarsatt IF last year, gets into the elite Damallsvenskern league.

Last season she also won the Golden Boot award and helped Krokom/Dvarsatt IF win the third-tier league.

The international striker, who has scored 18 goals more than second best top scorer Mai Jelkerud of Djurgarden, thanked God for her achievement, saying nothing could be possible without the almighty.

Through WhatsApp interview, Chawinga said: “I owe this glory to God and my teammates. It is good that I have managed to accomplish my goal which I set. n
