China-based Malawi women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga inspired her club to a 1-0 triumph over Shanghai in a Chinese Women’s Super League contest on Saturday.

According to Goal.com, Chawinga was the star of the match as her solo effort helped Jiangsu subdue their visitors.

Her second goal of the season also embarrassed Shanghai’s Nigeria player Francisca Ordega, who is 2018 African Footballer of the Year.

“This week, Malawi’s Chawinga outshone the 2018 African Women’s Footballer of the Year finalist as her solitary effort ensured Jiangsu condemned Shanghai to their first loss of the season.

“Chawinga, who played 90 minutes, has now scored two goals in two league games this term. Meanwhile, Ghana’s Elizabeth Addo played for nearly the whole game and was substituted a minute before the end,” Goal.com reported.

Before the game, Jiangsu were aiming for a second win on the bounce after a 3-2 win last week over Beijing Phoenix of South African players Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Molthalo.

On the other hand, Shanghai also had similar aspirations after Ordega provided a superb assist in their 5-2 win against Changchun Dazhong Zhuoyue in their opening match.

As it stands, Jiangsu sit on top of the log table with six points from two games, while Shanghai got three from same number of matches.

In an interview, Chawinga said scoring the goal was important for the team.

“I thank God that I scored against such a top team. What is important is not for me to score, but winning the game to take the lead,” she said.
