Tales of ‘BlackBerry’
Two years ago, my little pal Gomezgani Zakazaka had a strong argument with his former girl friend who sent him the folloring message: “Undibwezere BlackBerry yanga ayise, apo bii ndipanga za iwe!” And the response was rather amazing: “Aaah, iwe! Usathe mawu ayise, usavutike, zatenge msenda wakowu, ukunena za BlackBerry lero? Anzako anandipatsa kale Galaxy Tab 2!”
Then, a few days ago, I bumped into my blithe workmate Jaqueline Bizaliele who is an ardent Big Bullets follower and on a rather lighter note, she screamed to me: “Garry! Go and tell Chimango [Kayira] to shut up! If he is ‘BlackBerry’ [Chimango’s nickname], tell him we are going to replace him with a latest ‘Samsung Galaxy X4’.
“In fact, tell him that he ceased to be ‘BlackBerry’ the moment he quit BB and he is now ‘Mose wa lero’.”
I met Chimango at the weekend, but for some reasons I did not deliver the message. Instead, I was interested to know how he got the nickname ‘BlackBerry’ and he told me that because of his dark complexion [that he is proud of anyway] and how he orchestrates play at the heart of the pitch, Bullets GS Higger Mkandawire thought of giving him the pen name ‘BlackBerry.’
Being of the old school, I am not so much into the latest mobile phones and the first time I saw one, I mistook it for a calculator, but there you are Chimango, the general feeling is that ‘BlackBerry’ is slowly losing its steam. Could it be the reason you were put on the bench against Namibia in Windhoek in the 2014 World Cup qualifier? I am just thinking aloud.
Anyway, after all is said and done, I guess its time to reflect on your future after weeks of controversy whereby yesterday you were with Bullets, tomorrow you were in Silver Strikers camp and the next day getting an offer from a Mozambique club. It reminds me of the cute chic in our neighbourhood who goes out for lunch with her sugar daddy, then goes for shopping with her boyfriend Nic and finally attends a party with Charlie. Oh! yeah you need to search your soul BlackBerry [or is it Mose wa lero?]
AOB: It will be nice to see former Europe-based legends Ernest Mtawali and Zimbabwe’s Peter Ndlovu on the sidelines when the Flames host Warriors in an international friendly match this Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium. Glory be to God! Uloliwe.. Uloliwe wayidudula hi..Nang’esiza! [The train is pushing!
