Malawi’s only competitive footballer in Europe, Tawonga Chimodzi, has returned to training at Greece second-tier league side Iraklis Psachna; ending months on the sidelines through a leg injury.

“Yes, I will start light training with the team this week and progressively get back to full training. I have not been much focused on movements for now. Focusing on getting back on my feet,” Chimodzi said on Monday, referring to moves to bigger clubs.

The former Silver Strikers midfielder is expected to return to action in a few weeks for Psachna who have currently lost two games, drawn and won once each; a start to the season Chimodzi admitted was “not the fastest”.

“But I believe that better is the end of something than the start of it, especially when progressing with understanding of what is happening,” Chimodzi added.

The 26-year-old damaged his right leg ligaments. The injury robbed him of a big money move to another Greece second division side Olympiacos Volos in the July transfer window. He was last called up for the Flames in September 2013.

“I had a two-year contract [with Iraklis] and was actually sold to that other team and signed everything until the medical doctor said I had to undergo an operation, so we had to terminate the contract and automatically my team got me back so I am in my last year,” Chimodzi told Weekend Nation last month.

He hardly lasted a season in the TNM Super League before signing for Santos FC of South Africa First Division from Silver in 2007 before moving to Greece last season.
