The 35-year-old, who asked for anonymity, reportedly handed over the taxi (a Toyota Sienta) keys to his boss immediately after noting that he has become an overnight millionaire after predicting correctly results of 18 football matches with a K5 000 stake through PremierBet Malawi online portal last weekend.

“He was completely overwhelmed with joy after learning about his luck. He said he could not hold his patience but immediately quit his job, which earned him about K100 000 monthly,” said his best friend Yasin Akim, whom he sent to collect his cheque at PremierBet head office in Blantyre on Wednesday.

The proxy said his friend plans to buy a house and own a fleet of taxis in Mzuzu and his home district Mangochi.

PremierBet community manager Peter Nakanga said they are happy to have produced one of the historic winners in sports betting in the country.

“We are glad to have produced an overnight millionaire through sports betting,” he said.

Nakanga, however, advised the public to only bet with the little disposable income they get and not money meant for buying basic necessities.
